Essential Oils and Pregnancy

It is always extremely difficult to combine essential oils and pregnancy. Indeed, some species may be toxic and inhibit the proper development of baby.

However, some essential oils, used wisely and strongly diluted, can be useful during pregnancy, such as an oil for massage and in particular to relieve any pain sensitive, very common during pregnancy. Some will be tolerated to prevent stretch marks, others to relieve nausea, but also spread to relax and avoid stress. Attention in the case of serious illness, skin disease, infection, or previous miscarriage, abstain from any use or massage with essential oils.

Massage: During pregnancy, massage should be very soft, close to the touch. Never friction deep and intense, especially in the abdomen and legs (some acupuncture points in the feet may promote the onset of labor). During the first four months of pregnancy, choose a massage with pure vegetable oils (eg sweet almond oil, argan oil). Past the first four months, you can add a few drops of essential oil in your massage oil, a maximum of 10 drops per 100ml.

Throughout pregnancy, Avoid at all costs the following essential oils:

Basil, cinnamon, celery, cedar, fennel, hyssop, juniper, jasmine, marjoram, lemon balm, mint, nutmeg, myrrh, parsley, rosemary, sage and thyme. Check out the list of essential oils prohibited strictly for professional use.

During the first 4 months, in addition to avoid the list above, the essential oils of rose, lavender, chamomile and geranium.
