The music that I like ...


In August 2003, a large study américaine1 tried to find correlations between musical tastes and personality. The researchers examined the profiles of over 3500 students, then compared them to their discography. First result: the authors argue, can combine the musical tastes of people in four categories. Then we can link them to different aspects of personality. In summary, we have:

Of course, the results of this study does not tell us if it's the personality that dictates the choice of music, or music choices have an influence on personality. Nevertheless, the authors noted two prevailing attitudes: Some tend to choose their music based on their mood and their activities, others, particularly adolescents, tend to use music as a "showcase", a means of returning an image to those around them.

But we note that the authors found no aggressive or neurotic trends related to rock music or rap music in particular.
